Microdermabrasion is also known as power peel, particle resurfacing, derma-peel or Parisian peel. Dr. Bidic, Dr. Gundlapalli and Dr. Sheck will be happy to sit down and discuss whether microdermabrasion in New Jersey is the right treatment for your skin's needs.

For microdermabrasion, choose a plastic surgeon who goes above and beyond for his patients. Request your consultation online or call (856) 362-8898 to schedule your appointment.

By using a powerful device to spray microcrystals of aluminum dioxide powder across the skin's surface, one of our skin care specialists can effectively remove the upper layer of dead skin cells on the skin's epidermis. Microdermabrasion leaves the skin with a fresher, more glowing look by diminishing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, enlarged pores and coarse-textured skin.

Who is an Ideal Candidate for Microdermabrasion?

Most healthy adults are great candidates for microdermabrasion. This exfoliating treatment is pretty conservative in comparison to the various resurfacing treatments that are available today. Because of this, microdermabrasion is best suited for mild to moderate concerns related to pigment, skin texture, and minor scarring. If your goal is to correct skin laxity, deep wrinkles, or more significant scars, we may discuss other treatment options.

What Skin Issues Can Microdermabrasion Treat?

You can have microdermabrasion for a number of reasons. You don't have to have an existing concern to benefit from this exfoliating treatment, either! Microdermabrasion removes the cells that are no longer serving their purpose. It allows newer, healthier, more radiant cells to come to the surface. By accelerating cellular turnover, microdermabrasion can be an excellent treatment option for the correction of minor fine lines and wrinkles, clogged, enlarged pores, poor skin texture, minor acne scars, sun damage, age spots, and uneven skin tone. You may also schedule microdermabrasion treatments to help you manage rosacea or mild acne.

How Long Does a Microdermabrasion Session Take?

Your microdermabrasion treatment may take from 20 minutes to about 45 minutes. This depends on your skin type and texture and also the areas you're having treated. Microdermabrasion is most commonly performed as a full-face treatment. However, you may also have your neck or chest treated in the same visit. After talking with you about your concerns and desired outcome, we'll let you know how much time to set aside for your microdermabrasion appointment.

How Many Microdermabrasion Treatments will it Take Before I See Results?

You might see some positive changes in your skin after just one microdermabrasion treatment. Your skin may have a new glow and will very likely look smoother and softer. If you have more significant concerns that you would like to improve, such as fine lines, acne scars, or pigment problems caused by sun damage, you may see the best results after a series of four, six, or more treatments. Your provider will make an educated recommendation for your skin after consulting with you about your desired outcome and observing your complexion, skin texture, and other tissue characteristics.

What is the Recovery Like After Microdermabrasion?

It's not uncommon for the skin to appear slightly red or flushed after microdermabrasion. This treatment does, after all, abrade the skin! That said, your side effects from treatment should be mild and short-lived. You may be back to normal in a few minutes or a few hours. To keep your skin from getting dry after your treatment, we suggest that you moisturize a few times a day using a soothing gel or cream. You should only need to do this for two to three days, after which your skin's natural moisture should return. If your skin flakes or crusts, avoid picking or scrubbing. Allow any loosened skin to slough off naturally. To prevent unnecessary irritation, it is wise to avoid activities that cause you to sweat excessively. Wait a few days to hit that hot tub or the gym.

Is Microdermabrasion Painful?

Microdermabrasion works only on the top layers of your skin. The instrument works gently to slough off the dead and damaged cells that are diminishing your natural glow. The spray of microcrystals that is aimed at the skin can feel like a very light "sandblasting" of your skin. This does not hurt. It feels like a mild grittiness, and the microcrystals are immediately swept away with suction. Due to the suction, you might feel a slight tugging on your skin. Because this occurs simultaneous to the spray of microcrystals on your skin, neither sensation is overwhelming.
