Dr. Vinay S. Gundlapalli is an accomplished plastic and reconstructive surgeon who brings more than 10 years of surgical training to American Surgical Arts. Together, Dr. Gundlapalli and Dr. Sean Bidic are two of the leading plastic surgeons in South Jersey.

An internationally trained surgeon, Dr. Gundlapalli specializes in a range of cosmetic and reconstructive surgery procedures, including microvascular breast reconstruction, implant based breast reconstruction, reconstruction after skin cancer resection, reconstruction after trauma, Hand surgery, breast reduction, body contouring, and facial plastic surgery.

Double Board Certification

Dr. Gundlapalli is a double board-certified Surgeon. He is certified by American Board of Surgery (ABS) as a General Surgeon. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) as a Board-certified Plastic surgeon. Some surgeons refer to themselves as "board certified," even though they have not been certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS). The ABPS is the only board sanctioned by the American Board of Medical Specialties. The ABPS requires more extensive training and has more rigorous standards than other boards that offer certification for "cosmetic" surgeons.

He is a member of American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS). He is a candidate member of the Aesthetic Society. He is a member of the American Medical Association (AMA), the American College of Surgery (ACS), the International College of Surgery (ICS), and the New Jersey Plastic Surgery Society, South Carolina Medical Association. Dr. Gundlapalli currently operates at several area hospitals, including Inspira Medical Center (Vineland, Mullica Hill, Elmer).

Education & Training

Dr. Gundlapalli's background includes earning advanced degrees in India, the U.K., and the U.S. In 2003, he earned a medical degree from BLDE University's Shri B M Patil Medical College in his home country of India. Dr. Gundlapalli then completed his basic surgical training and in 2007 gained membership in the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh, UK.

After moving to the U.S., Dr. Gundlapalli embarked on a 1-year surgical training program at Detroit Medical Center/Wayne State University in 2009. He then completed a 5-year general surgery residency at Mercy Catholic Medical Center in Philadelphia, graduating as Chief Resident. Before joining American Surgical Arts in July 2017, Dr. Gundlapalli graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina as Chief Resident in plastic surgery.

True to his dedicated nature, Dr. Gundlapalli is active academically as well. He's published research in peer-reviewed journals and has presented at regional, national and international meetings. His areas of interest include:

  • Breast reconstruction: implantbased, autologous tissue techniques including microvascular flap, directtoimplant, and prepectoral breast reconstruction
  • Cosmetic surgery: facelift, neck lift, rhinoplasty, abdominoplasty, breast reduction, body contouring, liposuction
  • Injectables: BOTOX, Dysport and dermal fillers
  • Craniofacial trauma, chest and abdominal wall reconstruction
  • Hand surgery: carpal tunnel release, trigger finger, fractures, arthritis, tumors
  • Complex wound managementflap techniques, pressure ulcers
  • Microvascular surgery
  • Transgender procedures

Personal Life

Dr. Gundlapalli enjoys spending time with his wife and 2 young children. His hobbies include photography, yoga, meditation, tennis and he's an avid runner.
